When I graduated from my master’s degree in Digital Marketing & Data Analytics I thought that was the end of learning for me. I was wrong that was only the beginning! In marketing you have to stay curious and keep learning to stay ahead.
With so many resources out there I remember feeling completely overwhelmed. I didn’t know where to begin. It took time to find the right resources, the ones that explained things clearly, gave practical advice, and made marketing feel less intimidating.
So, to save you some time (and confusion!), I’ve curated a list of the best free resources that helped me build my marketing knowledge.
1. Websites & Blogs
If you prefer detailed articles, case studies, and step-by-step guides, these websites are goldmines:
HubSpot Blog – My go-to for beginner-friendly marketing content. Their guides on email marketing, social media strategy, and SEO simplified concepts that once felt impossible to grasp.
Neil Patel Blog – Great for SEO advice, content marketing tips, and growth hacks.
SEMrush Blog – Packed with actionable SEO tips, keyword research strategies, and content marketing advice.
Pretty Little Marketer Blog - My new favourite blog. A community blog packed with insights from experts in social media and more!
2. YouTube Channels
For visual learners like me, these channels were incredibly helpful:
Vanessa Lau – Focuses on social media growth, especially Instagram and YouTube strategies. Her content helped me improve my social media when I had my own small business (that’s a story for another day).
Modern Millie – Focuses on Instagram growth, personal branding, and social media strategies with actionable tips that are easy to follow.
3. Substack Newsletters
I personally haven’t found many marketing newsletters on Substack, but these three are the ones I subscribed when I first joined Substack.
4. Bonus Resources
These extra tools and platforms made learning even easier:
Google Skillshop – Offers free online marketing courses that provide certifications, a great starting point for beginners.
Canva Design School – This one is on my to-do list. I use Canva everyday at work so taking this course is a no-brainer.
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re just starting your marketing journey or looking to sharpen your skills, these resources have been game-changers for me. The key is consistency pick one or two resources that resonate with you and start applying what you learn bit by bit.
